About Services

This is a free quit-tobacco service that has helped thousands of residents in their efforts to quit. The program is funded by the State Department of Health. Support is available to anyone who lives in the state. There is a complete program which includes support from a Quit Coach over the phone, or an online program, Web Coach, that doesn’t include any phone coaching, or more of an a la carte individual program where you can pick and choose which services you want to use.

Helpline®

Most residents are eligible, a complete quit-tobacco program. It includes:

  • Up to five one-on-one phone coaching sessions with trained tobacco counselors to help set up your quit plan and support you throughout your quit process.
  • A private online community where you can develop your own Quitting Plan, track your quit progress, calculate savings, and join in discussions with others for support.
  • A text-messaging program tailored to help you quit and stay quit. The texts are based on your quit stage as you move through the program. They will provide information and support to help you quit tobacco.
  • Free patches, gum or lozenges if you are medically approved. Talk to your coach about your options.
  • An email program that works together with the coaching calls. The emails give tips, advice and encouragement to help you develop a plan to quit.
  • A Welcome Kit sent through the mail that includes an informational, printed Quit Guide and other information that will help you build your plan to quit.

Web Coach®

Most residents are eligible for our interactive website, Web Coach, to help them quit.  It is similar to the program, but without the phone coaching.  It includes:

  • A private online community where you can develop your own Quitting Plan, track your quit progress, calculate savings, and join in discussions with others for support.
  • A text messaging program to help you quit and stay quit. Text2QuitSM is full of advice and encouragement including daily tips, games and reminders.
  • Free patches, gum or lozenges that you can order online if medically approved.
  • An email program that provides a series of emails full of tips, advice and encouragement to help you create a plan to quit.
  • An electronic Quit Guide that you can download online with information to help you build your plan to quit.

Individual Services®

Any state resident 18 years of age or older may sign up for any or all of these Individual Services:

  • A text messaging program to help you quit and stay quit. Text2QuitSM is full of advice and encouragement including daily tips, games and reminders.
  • A starter kit of patches, gum or lozenges that you can order online if medically approved – and a follow-up call with a Quit Coach® to confirm you received it and to answer your questions.

Working with a Coach

  1. What are Quit Coaches and how are they trained?
Quit Coaches are non-judgmental professionals with an understanding of people’s stages of readiness to quit tobacco. Before hiring, all Quit Coaches are required to have a bachelor’s degree and many have advanced degrees.  Quit Coaches have received thorough training and are experts in helping tobacco users quit.

  2. When will my Coach call me?
You can let your Quit Coach know the time of day you like to be called or log on to your Web Account and enter your “Best Time to Call” in My Profile. Your Coach will attempt to reach you during that time of day.

  3. When can I call my Coach?
Quit Coaches are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with only three exceptions: July 4, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (December 25). Call us toll free at 1-800-QUITNOW (784-8669).

  4. My Coach is calling me at times that aren't easy for me to talk. How do I have the calls come at better times or to a different phone number?
Ask your Coach to update your information next time you talk.

  5. How do I use the "Call us now" button I see in emails and on the website?
Click that button and enter the phone number where you can be reached. You’ll get a call back within seconds. When you answer, you'll hear us connecting you to a Quit Coach. You can use this feature anytime you need some support.

  6. How do I schedule a call?
You and your Quit Coach will schedule your next call toward the end of each call. You can also call us anytime though at 1-800-QUITNOW (784-8669) to talk to a coach.
